death valley welcome sign

here we are at the entrance. it is 123 degrees fahrenheit. no wind,

just absolutely still. it is so warm that the birds mouths are

permanantly open. honest. no joke. it is 100ft below sea level. weird.

Zabriskie Point

here we stopped of at zabriskie point. it was a vista point.

there are a lot of vista points in california.

Zabriskie Point

ditto.

dantes view

this is dante's view. it is also a vista point. it is at the end of a

very long and winding road, have a look at google maps if you don't

believe me. the door that paul mccartney mentioned has been demolished.

artists drive

artists drive is a scenic loop that artists can drive round in their

cars. quite why it is only open to artists i do not know.

furnace creek cabin

here is our home for the evening we spent in death valley. i know what

you are thinking, it's just a hut... but it was so much more. to the

right, making its first appearance is our car. it is a mustang, open

topped V8 498bhp muscle car, as you can see..

sand dunes at stovepipe wells

here are sand dunes, there were snake tracks here too. i kid you not.

mono lake

some landscapes around mono lake. a most amazing place.

mono lake landscape

ditto, looking toward yosemite.

mono lake

on mono lake are these salt towers called tufa. because the lake has

no outlet, dissolved salts make the water very alkaline and salty.
